Cubiks Test – 2024 Guide

What Is a Cubiks Test?

Cubiks is an assessment consultancy. It is part of PSI Services, a popular psychometric assessment provider.

Cubiks offers online tests in more than 50 countries worldwide. They are used by many well-regarded employers, including Ernst & Young, Electrolux and Danske Bank.

Cubiks offers a range of different tests. The assessments are designed to assist organizations with:

  • Recruitment and selection
  • Employee development
  • Talent management

Cubiks tests are renowned for their clear and straightforward to interpret structure. For candidates, the intuitive interface means the tests are straightforward to complete.

If you are applying for job roles, you may be asked to take one or more Cubiks tests.

You could be requested to take a Cubiks test as part of your employer's career development strategy or talent management program if you are already employed.

What to Expect on a Cubiks Test

Cubiks tests can be split into categories, with each set of questions designed to assess a specific skill set.

Some employers choose to use individual question packs. In contrast, others combine packs to create a set of questions that relates to a particular career path.

The Cubiks test categories are:

  • Cognitive – Logiks Intermediate and Logiks Advanced
  • Personality – PAPI I, PAPI N and Cubiks Factors
  • Situational Judgment (SJT)

The Cognitive Logiks tests can be broken down further into the following categories:

You are allowed to use a calculator during the Logiks tests.

You will not lose points for giving an incorrect answer; therefore, it is better to guess the answer than leave it blank.

It is possible to skip a question and return to it later, so it is wise to move on to answer the questions you find more straightforward if you get stuck.

  • Numerical reasoning: 16 questions – 4 minutes
  • Abstract reasoning: 10 questions – 4 minutes

Logiks General Test (Advanced)

This test takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Logiks Abstract Reasoning Tests

For this test, you will need to answer 30 questions in a 15-minute timeframe.

For each question, you will be shown an image of a pattern.

You must apply logical thinking to choose the next image in the sequence from a set of possible answers.

Cubiks Personality Tests

There are two Cubiks Personality Tests; Cubiks Factors and PAPI.

If you have been asked to complete a Cubiks Personality Test, remember that there are no correct or incorrect answers to the questions.

However, it would help if you always chose the answer that best describes your usual behavior.

Choosing the answer that you think the recruiter is looking for is not a good idea.

If you do this and are successful, the recruiter will quickly find that your skills and personality do not match their expectations.

To help you understand the company values, always look at the corporate website before applying for jobs.

This will help you focus on applying for roles where you will be a good match for the company ethos. You will also gain a better understanding of what the recruiter is looking for.

As there is no time limit, allow plenty of time to complete the assessment, thinking carefully about each answer that you give.

Always complete the tests in a quiet, calm environment so that you can focus all your attention on meeting the assessment without any distractions.

Cubiks Factors Test

This test is often used during the hiring process. It helps recruiters to screen out applicants who do not demonstrate the desired personality traits.

The Cubiks Factors Test is modeled on the 'Big Five' personality factors:

These are:

Big Five Fundamental Factors Cubiks Factors Personality Traits to be Assessed
Conscientiousness Drive and self-motivation How passionate and determined is the individual to achieve their objectives?
Being dependable Can the candidate effectively plan and structure their workload to achieve goals?
Neuroticism Being adaptable Does the candidate remain calm and optimistic when working under pressure or adapting to changes?
Agreeableness Being supportive Does the candidate offer moral support to others? What are they inspired by? What factors help them to feel positive at work
Extraversion Being assertive To what extent is the candidate self-confident? Can they express and defend their opinions?
Openness Being creative How open is the candidate to new ideas? Are they able to imagine new concepts and bring them to life? Are they able to problem-solve using creative solutions?

The duration of the Cubiks Factors test is approximately 10 minutes. However, there is no set time limit, so you can take as long as you need to answer all of the questions.

During the test, you will be asked to rate 54 statements, using a 7-point Likert scale to indicate the extent to which you agree or disagree with each of the statements.

PAPI Tests

The Personality and Preferences Index (PAPI) analyses how a candidate is likely to behave and perform in the workplace.

These tests are often used in the employee development process. Recruiters also use them to help them to learn more about a candidate's personality, key strengths and areas for development.

Finally, they can be used by managers to benchmark an individual against others as part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

PAPI Normative (N) Test

This test is untimed. On average, it takes around 30 to 35 minutes to complete.

This test is a popular choice for pre-employment screening. Candidates are presented with a series of statements. Then, they must rate the extent to which they agree or disagree with each statement, using a 7-point Likert scale.

There are no correct or incorrect answers to the questions. The test-taker's responses will give an insight into how they think they behave in the workplace.

When used as part of the hiring process, candidate's answers can be compared with a control group.

The results will help the recruiter identify which candidates are likely to be a good fit for the role, considering their traits and work preferences.

PAPI Ipsative (I) Test

This test is untimed. On average, it takes around 30 to 35 minutes to complete.

There are no correct or incorrect answers to the questions. However, a candidate's results will be used to help shape their development plan and form part of their CPD.

This test is used to assess an individual's preferences and personality at work. Test-takers are shown three statements about behavior at work.

They must select the statement they believe to be the closest match to their preferences and personality.

Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs)

SJT's assess the test taker's skills in a range of practical work situations. In addition, these tests are often used to evaluate leadership skills.

They can be used as part of the recruitment process and development and talent management purposes.

Typically, test-takers are applying for or working within supervisory or management roles.

Candidates are presented with a brief scenario and a choice of possible actions.

They must imagine they are in the situation described and choose the answer that is the closest match to what they would do next.

There are no right or wrong answers; however, the test-taker's responses will highlight their leadership style and abilities.

SJT's provide a valuable opportunity for test-takers to demonstrate their leadership and problem-solving abilities.

They also provide candidates with further insight into what it would be like to work in the job role they have applied for.

How to Prepare for a Cubiks Assessment in 2024

You do not need to have any particular knowledge or experience to take any of the Cubiks assessment tests.

However, there are several ways you can prepare for a Cubiks test:

Step 1. Complete Practice Tests and Preparation Practice Packs Using the Cubiks Online Assessment Practice Portal

Answering simulation questions will help you become familiar with the test format and what to expect from each question category.

You will also be able to practice answering questions within a specific timeframe.

In addition to practice questions, preparation packs offer detailed solution explanations, performance comparisons and training plans.

Step 2. Read the Instructions Carefully Before Answering a Question

This will ensure you do not miss an essential piece of information or misinterpret what you are being asked to do.

Step 3. Try Out Different Ways of Tackling the Questions

For example, you might try reading the multiple-choice answers before the passage of text for the verbal reasoning questions. Experimenting with different techniques will help you to find the most effective way of completing the test.

Step 4. Use the Process of Elimination

Look through each of the possible answers and work through the test question, making a note beside any answers you identify as being incorrect. This will help you to narrow down the options and hopefully enable you to choose the correct one.

Step 5. Skip Difficult Questions

Remember to come back to them. If you are struggling with a question, make a note of it and move on. Doing so will enable you to work through some of the other questions before going back to the thorny question if you have any time left at the end.

Step 6. Avoid Technical Problems

Before taking a test, make sure your browser is compatible and your equipment is set up correctly. Sit in a quiet, uninterrupted space to ensure you are not distracted while answering the questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cubiks test is a name given to a battery of tests published by PSI Services. The Cubiks suite of tests are taken online, and they are used in recruitment and selection as well as employee development and talent management in several industries.

The tests themselves can be delivered individually or in tandem, and the test(s) you will take will depend on the type and level of role you have applied for.

The Cubiks tests are separated into three distinct types:

  • Cognitive – Logiks Intermediate and Logiks Advanced
  • Personality – Factors and PAPI
  • Situational Judgement

The Cubiks Logiks Intermediate General test combines verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning questions into a single test comprising of 50 questions to be answered in 12 minutes.

The Cubiks Logiks Advanced test can be a General test with questions on verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning, with a slightly longer time limit and fewer questions that are more challenging.

There are also standalone Logiks tests on verbal reasoning, abstract reasoning and numerical reasoning.

The Cubiks Factors personality test is used mostly in recruitment and uses the Big Five personality traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism) with statements that are used to discover the type of person an applicant is at work. This is an untimed test that usually only takes about ten minutes to complete.

The PAPI (Personality and Preferences Index) test can be normative or ipsative but also looks at personality traits and how a candidate or employee prefers to work. Again, this test is untimed but it takes a little bit longer than the Factors test, so you should allow 30-35 minutes for this one.

The Situational Judgement Test uses work-related scenarios to assess decision-making, work behavior, and leadership skills. These are also untimed.

Cubiks Logiks are cognitive assessments that look at aptitude and inherent skills related to success in the workplace. They assess numerical, verbal, and abstract reasoning competency with different levels relating to the type of role that you have applied for.

Cubiks Online is the testing platform that you will be directed to when you are invited to take the assessment. It is where your results will be shared with the recruiter or employer too. As a platform powered by Cubiks it is the ‘home’ of all things Cubiks – including practice assessments and candidate help.

Although you do not need specific knowledge or education to take a Cubiks test, being prepared will help you get the best score.

Practice tests not only help you become comfortable with answering questions under time pressure, but they also prepare you for the type of questions that you might encounter.

You might find a particular type of question difficult – especially in the Logiks cognitive assessment – and practice tests will highlight this so you can revise and improve your scores before you face the real thing.

You can find official Cubiks practice tests on the candidate portal at Cubiks, which has lots of information to help you improve.

If you want more, then we recommend the content at JobTestPrep which has been designed specifically to help you get the best score possible through practice tests, revision material and tips.

Aside from practice tests and revision, you can give yourself the best chance at nailing the personality and situational judgment tests by knowing what type of person the role needs – and thinking about your traits and work behavior in that context. Framing yourself through the competencies and behaviors that are needed in the role will help you demonstrate that you are the right person for the job with your answers in these assessments.

In general, you want to prepare for the Cubiks test the same way you would for any major event – give yourself the best chance for success by helping your body and mind to work at its best. You can do this by getting a good night’s sleep in the run-up to the test, staying hydrated, and eating a healthy meal so you can concentrate and give your brain what it needs.

The Cubiks test is favored by recruitment teams because it is straightforward for candidates to complete – but that does not mean that it is easy.

There are a few things that can help you crack the test on the day:

  • Read the questions properly. There are no trick questions, and everything that you need to answer the question is provided (and you can use a calculator if you need one). don’t rush ahead and risk making a mistake because you have misunderstood the instructions.
  • Skip a question. If one of the questions is giving you trouble, skip it and move on – just don’t forget to come back and attempt it at the end if you have time.
  • Answer all the questions. Related to the last point, make sure you try and answer all the questions as the Cubiks test is not negatively marked, which means that if you get an answer wrong you will not be marked down. An educated guess in a multiple-choice assessment gives you far more chance of a mark than not answering at all, so don’t be afraid to use a process of elimination to select the most likely answer.
  • Work on techniques. If you know how to tackle multiplying a percentage, then it doesn’t matter what numbers are involved – and this works with other question types too. Have an established way of working so that you can approach every question confidently.

The Cubiks test battery can be separated into several different categories, and the tests can be taken together or individually, depending on the nature of the role you have applied for or the purpose of the tests.

In the Cubiks Logiks tests, cognitive abilities are assessed through verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and abstract reasoning questions.

In the Cubiks Factors and PAPI tests, personality traits are examined by rating or choosing statements depending on how much you think they describe you at work.

In the Situational Judgement Test, work behavior, decision making and leadership skills are being assessed through work-related scenarios with different actions that can be taken.

The Cubiks tests are positively marked, which means that you will not be penalized for a wrong answer.

In the Logiks test suite, you are marked on both your speed and accuracy, and this is usually presented as a percentile that directly compares your results with those of other test-takers. There will be a benchmark that you will have to reach to be taken further in the recruitment process.

In the Factors, PAPI and Situational Judgement tests, your answers will be compared against an ‘ideal candidate’ profile to decide if you have the desired personality traits and work behaviors for the role for which you have applied.

Every company that uses Cubiks tests for their recruitment or development will have different criteria for success – so it is difficult to decide on what a ‘good’ score would be.

In the personality and situational judgment tests, a good score depends on your personality traits and work behavior matching what the role requires.

In the Logiks cognitive assessment, the score you achieve will be compared against other test takers as a percentile, and there will be a required level that you have to achieve to be taken farther in the recruitment process.

This will change depending on the number of applicants, the level of the role, and the performance of your peers. It could be that only the top 20% of test-takers will be taken further, or it could be the top 5%.

This means that the only way to guarantee getting further in the recruitment process for a role you want is to ensure that you score as highly as possible.

Cubiks tests tend to be short online assessments that are taken in your own time.

Each test has a slightly different time limit and number of questions.

  • Logiks General Intermediate – 50 questions to be answered in 12 minutes.
  • Logiks General Advanced – 30 questions to be answered in 20 minutes
  • Logiks Verbal Reasoning – 25 questions in 35 minutes
  • Logiks Numerical Reasoning – 20 questions in 20 minutes
  • Logiks Abstract Reasoning – 30 questions in 15 minutes
  • Factors – Untimed, usually takes about 10 minutes to complete
  • PAPI(N) and PAPI(I) – Untimed, usually takes 30-35 minutes
  • Situational Judgement – Untimed, usually about 20 minutes

Final Thoughts

When it comes to content, Cubiks tests are not the most challenging assessment tests in their field.

However, the limited timeframe you have to complete the tests means many people find it challenging.

You must dedicate plenty of time to prepare if you want to perform well in Cubiks tests.

Taking a Cubiks practice test will help you improve your overall time management, enabling you to perform well in real-life tests.
